Monthly Writer’s Workshop

The Writers’ Workshop gives students an opportunity to share their works-in-progress with fellow students under the guidance of instructor and author Nancy McMillan. All level students are welcome. Work can be first draft or anything beyond. Students can also use the time to discuss and/or brainstorm ideas and challenges with their projects.

Writers can bring up to five double-spaced pages to be read aloud and critiqued.  Critique guidelines will be provided.  Workshops will run for two hours. We run in a hybrid mode, offering both an in-person and a Zoom option.

The workshop is limited to 6 students. Students attending via Zoom must register by Thursday, November 17 to receive the Zoom link.

Please use the drop-down menu when registering for the in-person or Zoom option.

NEW DATE! Your Stories Matter: The Art of Storytelling

Stories are the foundation of all our communication. They spark emotion and help us find the commonalities in our shared human experiences and to connect more meaningfully to one another. We all have them. And, whether big or small, all of our stories matter.

Your Stories Matter: The Art of Storytelling Workshop provides the resources needed to begin to shape the experiences of your life into captivating stories and to gain the confidence needed to share them with others. Learning objectives are as follows:

  • Understand the essential building blocks of effective story-crafting
  • Review the differences between crafting a written story versus an oral story
  • Practice public speaking and performance exercises to increase confidence and authenticity and to help engage and inspire listeners

The workshop includes time for writing, reflection, constructive feedback, active listening, and group discussion in a relaxed, supportive environment. The fee is $45 and enrollment is limited to 20 participants.

Founded in 2016 by Kerri Gawreluk and Will Diaz, We Rise: Storytelling Collective is a Fairfield-County, CT-based storytelling organization whose mission is to empower individuals and strengthen communities through the art of storytelling.
