The Legend of Sleepy Hollow with J.T. Turner

The Headless Horseman Rides Again! J.TTurner portrays Washington Irving telling his most famous tale, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Taking on all the roles of this Halloween tale, Turner has adapted the piece to keep all ages entertained. It is story theater at its best! The award-winning actor and playwright, J.T. Turner, is sure to bring thrills and chills in this original & engaging one-man show.

About the Actor:

J.T. Turner is an award-winning actor who recently had a principal role in a major hit film, released in December 2021on Netflix! He worked on Don’t Look Up, in the role of “Old Billionaire” working alongside Meryl Streep and Mark Rylance. He is also in two HBO series: Julia, and The Gilded Age as well as working as a descriptive narrator for PBS on new episodes of Nova, and a return of Pinkalicious!

Turner also performs at the North Shore Music Theater, in his 11th year in A Christmas Carol as Mr. Fezzwig and Marley.  In addition, he also is also a certified teacher leading the Meditation and Mindful Movement (Tai Chi and Qigong).

Watercolor Workshop – Life’s Good On Our Boat

This is a one-day workshop with award winning watercolor artist, May Phillips. The workshop is for all levels. Students can use a line drawing given by the instructor or do their own drawing. Simple techniques will be demonstrated along with individual instruction. All supplies are included.

Watercolor Workshop – Vintage Seashells

This one-day workshop with watercolor artist Leona Gawreluk is for all levels. The class will start with a brief slide show of vintage shell illustrations and a discussion on the composition that makes them unique as pieces of art.  Whether it be a single shell or a group arrangement, the emphasis will be placed on composition and watercolor techniques to complete an original painting. Shells will be provided, but students are encouraged to bring their own from their personal collections. Each student will leave with an original piece of art and suggestions on how to frame it. All supplies are included.

The fee for the one-day, 3-hour workshop is $65 and the class is limited to 12 students.

About the Instructor:

Leona’s love of botanical art stems from her combined interest in art, gardening and nature. She feels you are never without a subject if you observe the natural world around you. From a young age she has collected antique botanical bookplates, and they continue to be an inspiration for her art. She has studied at the NY Botanical Garden, the Peabody Museum, and with many local award-winning botanical artists in CT and NJ.

Sunflowers for Ukraine Watercolors – Class #2

This is a one-day workshop with watercolor artist, Leona Gawreluk. The workshop is for all levels. The class will start with a brief slideshow on the history of botanical illustration and the place it holds in the art world today. A beginner will learn how to transfer the drawing from a photo to watercolor paper, mix color hues and values and use watercolor techniques to create a realistic sunflower painting. All students will paint the same flower but the more experienced artist will have the opportunity to put their own stamp on the piece. All supplies are included. A portion of the workshop fee will be sent for Ukrainian relief efforts through Fr. Paul Luniw at St. Michael’s Ukrainian Church.

Learn to Play the Ukulele for Beginners

Join instructor John Tuohy for a one-day workshop designed for beginner students. This class will focus on the basics of learning to play the instrument—from chords, to finger placement, to learning patterns and more. Students will learn to play a song by the end of the workshop.

About the Instructor: John Tuohy

Guitarist John Tuohy, based out of Fairfield County, is a music instructor and lecturer who focuses on teaching about artists and their work, while playing live musical performances to tell their story. John lectures and hosts demonstrations for diverse audiences on many topics of legends and icons from the first half of the 20th century. He currently is the in-house music lecturer at Riverwalk Assisted Living in the Bronx.

John has performed with many groups across multiple genres. His progressive rock band Mile Marker Zero won “Best Band in Connecticut” at the 2016 New England Music Awards.

John graduated Magna Cum Laude from Western Connecticut State University with a degree in Jazz Performance. He has worked as a private guitar instructor for over 20 years and has contributed session work for various artists and companies. He has been featured by Gearwire.com and judged the “King of the Blues” contest at Guitar Center.
