Intermediate Colored Pencil

This two-day class will provide step-by-step instructions with tips and techniques for the creation of a final painting. This class is for students who have taken Beginner Colored Pencil (Pear exercise ) or have the instructor’s approval.

Students will get a list of supplies, including a series of colored pencils that will be required.

The fee for the 4 hours is $120 and no supplies are included.  Class size is limited to 9 students.

Sandie has had a passion for art and art education since college. After retiring in 2011 from a 35-year corporate career, she began teaching art education in Loveland, Colorado to middle school students in after-school programs. She was a substitute teacher there for two years from 2012 – 2013.
In 2013 she came back to CT and began volunteering in the ASAP (After School Arts Program) in Washington, participating and assisting teachers in Region 12 primary school. She became involved with Washington Arts Association, volunteering at art shows and events.
Sandie began taking art classes through WAA, Silvermine Art Center, Rowayton Arts Center, Brookfield Craft Center and several other adult education programs across New Haven and Litchfield Counties. Most recently she has been with Arts Escape since 2018 taking classes in Colored Pencil and Pastel with Rita Paradis, Watercolor with Betty Ann Medieros, Acrylic with Anda Styler and Souby Boski.
Her art has been awarded prizes during the Threads member juried shows at Arts Escape in 2019 and 2020 and several pieces were published in the 2019 Fresh Ink annual journal of Naugatuck Community College. Her work has been shown at WAA and at the 275th celebration event at Averill Farm in Washington, CT.
She has self-published two books of her poetry and artwork, Poetry Expression I and II.

Beginning Colored Pencil Class

This is a 2 day, 2-hour, colored pencil workshop with award-winning artist Sandie Daignault and is designed for beginners. Students will work in a small group setting and will start with value exercises and basic layering techniques that will serve as a foundation for more advanced work. This is not an adult coloring activity.

Once basic skills are taught students are welcome to join the intermediate and advanced workshop where students work more independently on their own work. Each student will receive their own box of 23 Prismacolor colored pencils for the class, which can be used in future classes.

The fee for the 2-day class is $130 which includes all supplies. 

Workshop is limited to 10 students.

Acting Is Easy – A Free “Playshop”

This free PLAYSHOP is for all levels of actors, from beginners to seasoned community theatre actors and professionals.

Acting is about playing.  That is why they call it a Play.

Participants will begin with non-verbal communication theatre games. In a user-friendly environment, students will learn by doing. Then students will venture into verbal communication and be introduced to script analysis and creating characters, all of which works for any genre.  Participants will do both very short monologues and dialogues.  No memorization will be necessary. 

Dress in comfortable clothes you can move in.

This introductory workshop is free! The minimum is 6 participants, and the maximum is 20.

OX has been a professional actor for twenty years with work on Broadway, Off-Broadway, in feature films, TV movies and daytime, commercials, and voice-overs. OX is Creator of Acting is Easy, a user-friendly acting technique that works for all genres.

He has taught acting technique to over 5,000 actors, models, athletes, and amateurs of all ages, including work with physically and mentally challenged students. OX is the owner of The Acting Laboratory, one of the first on-camera acting training centers in the East. As a casting director, he has overseen 50,000 individual auditions and has directed over 100 plays, musicals, revues, television commercials, and promotional videos.

Children’s/YA Writers Forum

This popular monthly writer’s forum is for beginner and seasoned writers who write for children and young adults. If you are interested in sharing your work for gentle critique and feedback, this monthly group may be just for you. This is a great opportunity to share your work with fellow writers in a positive, non-judgmental format.

Please try to keep pieces to 5 pages, doubled spaced.

***Remember that you never need to make an edit to your piece just because someone suggested it. Your piece is your own.  You only need to take what is most helpful to you.

Admission is via a “Tip Jar.” Use the dropdown menu to choose an amount. There is still a free option; all tips are greatly appreciated.

The Writer’s Forum is limited to 8 participants. Students must register by Tuesday, January 3 to receive the Zoom link.

Tina Tocco’s writing for children has appeared in Highlights, Highlights High Five, Cricket, AppleSeeds, Humpty Dumpty, Turtle Magazine for Preschool Kids, Pockets, and other children’s publications. She is the author of the children’s poetry collection The Hungry Snowman and Other Poems (Kelsay Books, 2019). Tina’s fiction, nonfiction, and poetry have also been published in various literary journals and anthologies, such as New Ohio Review, Crab Creek Review, Potomac Review, River Styx, Harpur Palate, Ovunque Siamo, Best Small Fictions 2019, and Wild Dreams: The Best of Italian Americana. In 2019, she was nominated for a Pushcart Prize in fiction. Tina earned her MFA in creative writing from Manhattanville College, where she was editor-in-chief of Inkwell, the college’s national literary journal.

Writing Your Legacy Letter

A legacy letter is a written document that captures who you are and what matters most to you. It allows you to reflect on your important life experiences and transmit your values and life lessons to future generations. A legacy letter is a way for you to be remembered and for your life lessons to be shared and preserved. It also gives you an opportunity to express gratitude, request forgiveness, or make amends.

Writing one is a rewarding experience that creates an enduring gift for your family, friends, loved ones, and yourself.

This course is designed to introduce the concept of legacy letters and to help you craft your own legacy letter. It includes discussion and writing exercises. Jay will offer advice to help you complete your legacy letter, share it with loved ones, and preserve it for future generations.

All sessions will be recorded and recordings will be available, on request, to students who need to miss a session or want to review the material. Recordings are password protected for privacy and may be accessed only by students enrolled in the course.

The fee for the four-week workshop is $125. The minimum enrollment is five students; the maximum is twenty.

created the Life Reflections Project to educate people
about legacy letters and ethical wills; he now teaches
classes and workshops on legacy writing and helps
