Introduction to Character Design – A Drawing Workshop for Teens and Everyone!

Are you interested in learning how to make unique designs for cartooning, video games, comic books, or costumes? The foundation for these fields is a strong character design. In this class you will learn the basic concepts that guide character design. We will cover fundamental shapes, symmetry and asymmetry, poses, expressions, color, and more. The class is open to teens and adults ages 13 and up. The fee for the 5-week course is $135, which includes pencils and erasers.

Students are required to bring a 11 X 14 spiral bound sketchbook – not high quality.

***Students must be registered and paid in full three business days before the start of the class/workshop. Exceptions only with permission from the Director of Fine Art/Photography.

Introduction to Portrait Painting with Jesse Smolover

Wednesdays February 15, 22, March 1, 8, 15

*For those who have taken Jesse Smolover’s Beginner Drawing class this 5 week course will begin instruction in portraiture. Students will tackle on of the more challenging aspects of representational art; the human face. Drawing portraits can be intimidating but Jesse will break the process down so that you can approach it will confidence. The class will work directly from live models as an aid for the instructions. Students will learn different techniques from measuring proportions to carving out shadow shapes which help in finding the right approach for your art and the unique face of the model. The skills you learn in this course will help you not just look at faces, but truly see them.

The fee for the 5-week course is $125 which includes pencils and erasers and a model fee.

Students are required to bring an 18 x 24 inch pad of toned paper or an 18 x 24 inch pad with both white and toned paper and a General’s Compressed Pastel, Crayon kit.

The General’s Pastel Crayon kit will be available to purchase at Arts Escape or can be purchased on-line at Amazon.com
