Sunflowers for Ukraine Watercolors – Class #2
Leona Gawreluk
Wednesday, April 20
1:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
This is a one-day workshop with watercolor artist, Leona Gawreluk. The workshop is for all levels. The class will start with a brief slideshow on the history of botanical illustration and the place it holds in the art world today. A beginner will learn how to transfer the drawing from a photo to watercolor paper, mix color hues and values and use watercolor techniques to create a realistic sunflower painting. All students will paint the same flower but the more experienced artist will have the opportunity to put their own stamp on the piece. All supplies are included. A portion of the workshop fee will be sent for Ukrainian relief efforts through Fr. Paul Luniw at St. Michael's Ukrainian Church.
The fee for the one-day, 3-hour workshop is $65 and the class is limited to 12 students.

Leona’s love of botanical art stems from her combined interest in art, gardening and nature. She feels you are never without a subject if you observe the natural world around you. From a young age she has collected antique botanical bookplates and they continue to be an inspiration for her art. She has studied at the NY Botanical Gardens, the Peabody Museum and from many local award winning botanical artists in CT. and NJ.
