Oil and Cold Wax Mark Making in Small Places

This class will begin with a demonstration of the Oil & Cold Wax Medium on 140 lb paper. The technique of mixing oil paint and cold wax and the use of various tools will be demonstrated. How to incorporate collage paper, the use of charcoal, graphite and other mark-making tools will also be shown. A series of small paintings will be created on 22" x 30" paper divided into 12 small paintings incorporating all or some of the above and determined by each artist.

The fee for the class is $140 and is limited to 10 students

There is an additional $20 paid to the instructor at the time of class. ( The fee covers the cold wax, oil paints, 140lb watercolor paper, and all mark making tools and various supplies).

The following items will be supplied by the instructor:

Cold Wax

Oil Paints- both tansparent and opaque

Palette Knife

Messermeister silicone bowl scraper (

140 lb. watercolor paper divided into 12 small sections

Freezer wrap to be used as palette/wax paper

Tissue paper, Collage paper, Cheese Cloth, Brayers

Knitting needles, Stencils, Embossing Tools, Stamps

Glitter, Powdered Pigments, Oil Crayons, Graphite, Charcoal

*Students must be registered and paid in full three business days before the start of the class/workshop. Exceptions only with permission from the Director of Fine Art/Photography.

COVID POLICY - Only fully vaccinated students will be permitted to attend classes. Physical proof of vaccination will be requested on the first day of class.(One time Only) Don’t forget to bring your vaccination card.

Diane Brown

Diane Brown is an award-winning mixed media artist, specializing in Oil & Cold Wax. She exhibits in the New England area, Oregon and in NYC.

She is an Elected Artist at the Mystic Museum of Art, an Artist Member of The Artist Cooperative Gallery of Westerly, a member of Maple and Main Gallery, the New Haven Paint & Clay Club, The Newport Museum of Art and the Art League of New Britain, South County Art Association, The Allied Artists of America, an Associate Member of the Catherine Lorillard Wolfe Art Center, Essex Art Association, The Salmagundi Club and Lyme Art Association.

She has been commissioned by The Rose Project in Bethesda, Maryland as well as at Eastern Connecticut State University.

She has produced commissions for individual residences in Georgia, Florida and Connecticut.
