“Plein Air is the New Golf” says CEO of Streamline Publishing, Eric Rhoads- it is an easy way to take your paint and brushes outside and learn to capture a scene! If you have never tried “painting out”, this will be a gentle introduction, chock full of tips from plein air pro, Ellie Boyd.  Some familiarity with painting is helpful.  The class will start off with the basics and a quick introduction into looking at a scene and drawing/painting it directly on your canvas using tried and true methods. Come to Learn:
  • how to get outside and paint a simple scene,
  • and enjoy being part of nature,
  • how to use a viewfinder and simple design tricks
  • how to make a thumbnail drawing and three-value study
  • how to mix color using a limited palette
  • what to wear/take on your plein air adventure.
The group will meet at a designated location in Southbury. (TBD)  Materials will be supplied.  Participants must be able to walk and carry gear over uneven terrain.  If you have a portable easel, please bring it. Wear old clothes and bring a folding chair. Classes will be rescheduled due to inclement weather.  Class size is limited to 5 students.  The fee for the 2-day workshop is $75 which includes all supplies.  Please specify when registering if you have your own easel or not.
