Learn about color and expand your color possibilities in this intense one day color workshop. Using natural forms as a model you will see and mix with paint; bright, saturated, light, dark, muted and soft colors. Students will learn to use the properties of both mineral and moderns paint pigments to create opaque and transparent layers. All of these light, dark, dull, and bright colors in combination will get students the most intensity, emotion, and realism out of the paints available during the workshop. Students will leave this experience with a new found color vision and a number of small finished works. This guided workshop is appropriate for all skill levels. Derek Leka has been painting for 15 years and teaching for 12 years. He has a MFA from Western Connecticut State University in Painting, Drawing and Color and his undergraduate degree from Purchase College in Painting, Drawing and Color. In 2008 Derek's painting Placid Motion was exhibited at the National Academy Museum's annual invitational where he won the Andrew Carnegie award in painting. Derek is an art materials expert and has presented to College Art Departments throughout New England and upstate NY. Derek is a master colorist and in 2018 he published his first book about color; Color is Design: Find Your Unique Color Vision. His second book, The Big Li'l Book of Contrast was published this year. Both are available on the Apple Bookstore. The fee for the one-day workshop is $110 which includes all supplies. Class size is limited to 10 students.
